It feels amazing, captain Lokki Kwan says after winning first gold for Hong Kong

At his second World Championship with Hong Kong’s fifth appearance, Lokki Kwan lead his side to win gold medal game in B pool and first medal ever. “Boys and I will go out for a couple of drinks tonight,” he says with a wide smile on his face.

“Getting a gold today feels amazing. Two years ago, we actually finished 4th, so this is first medal ever. This is my second time and luckily we came with the gold,” captain Lokki Kwan said after defeating team GB by three goals to none.

“They’re a tough team. They’re fast. They have a couple of really good guys. Going into the game, we knew we had to cover those guys. We did our job and we held them scoreless,” he revealed the game plan for the gold medal game of B pool. Speaking about top players, he mentioned Chris Morrison who met with Kwan in the all-star selection.

“Yes, he was the guy. We had to mark him and we did and he didn’t get a goal right? We were well aware of who we need to cover so we did. We just gave it all, we ran as hard as we could. Everybody ran hard, we all chipped in and it was a well deserved team win,” he praised his teammates for a great display on their D-Day.

Shutout in the final game helped the case for sure. Lui managed to null the forwards of GB with a massive save in the third period. “On that 2-on-0, he made a huge save. He’s carried us all along. He’s not just like our keeper, I mean he had three shutouts at this tourney and it is very hard to have a shutout in ball hockey. He is a solid goalie. It was amazing from him,” Kwan says about his number one man in the goal.

Team Hong Kong — 2017 B Pool World Champions

Hong Kong had a great run in Pardubice and even the local fans enjoyed their presence very much. “It was amazing. Everybody is just so lovely here. All the people, everybody respects the sport and everybody is here just to have a good time, right? No one is here to fight or to mess things up. It’s just a good time so I loved it,” Hong Kong’s captain shares his experience with the hosting city.

What is the celebration gonna look like for the fresh World Champions? “I think the boys and I are gonna go out for a couple of drinks but I’m not sure where that’s gonna end up,” he laughs. “Obviously, we tasted the Czech beer and it’s amazing here. We had a few here and there and some in Prague as well during our days off. We’re definitely gonna have some drinks tonight for sure to celebrate.”

Gold in B pool seems like Team Hong Kong is ready to take their game to the next level. “Hey, you know what? You can only go up from here, right? I don’t know what the plan is for the Tournament system. The only thing I know is we’re gonna try even harder. We’ll keep coming back and work our buts off trying to beat other teams,” Lokki Kwan promised.
