Pardubice

Pardubice is a college town in the Eastern region of Bohemia. The city lies on confluence of the Labe and Chrudimka rivers, approximately 95 km east of Prague and 20 km south of Hradec Králové, at an altitude of 210 m.

With 90,000 residents, it is the tenth largest city in the Czech Republic. It spreads over an area of 83 km². Pardubice is divided into eight city districts and 20 cadastral areas. The first mention of Pardubice dates back to the year 1295.

The University of Pardubice is based in the city as well as the regional court. The historical city centre ha been an urban conservation area since 1964. The main branches of industry are chemistry, engineering and the electro-technical industry. Since the 16th century, Pardubice has been well known its gingerbread. The main sporting events are the Velká pardubická steeplechase and the motorcycle race Zlatá přilba.
