France wins dramatically over GB in 1st game of tournament

1. 6. 2017 | Petr Sumbal
The World Championship did not start well for British forward Greg Ferrington. He got injured in 7th minute. "He´s done. He had an injury before the tournament with his knee and he just got in again," said British forward Vlad Porubsky about the health status of his teammate. After first period the score was tied 1-1. In the second period, Team GB had a two-man advantage and Porubsky scored a goal from the blue line, but in the very last minute of the period, Jess Tanguay tied the game again. In the final period, both team scored once before the last minute, when Dominic Martel scored the winning goal for France with just 18 seconds to play.

Reactions

Vlad Porubsky (forward, Team Great Britain): At the end, there was misunderstanding at the blue line, which led to the winning goal. I thought my teammate got the ball and he thought I had it. It was all about the penalties, and penalty killing. So that is what we´ll have to be aware of in the next game. And we have to work on our defence also.
