Another Hong Kong comeback, another shootout loss; this time to Cayman Islands

3. 6. 2017 | Derek OBrien
With a beautiful deke, Scott Elliott scored the only goal of the shootout, giving the Cayman Islands a 4-3 shootout victory over Hong Kong. The islanders scored three times in the first eight minutes, but couldn´t hold the lead, and so they finish the group stage with five points. Hong Kong scored once on the power play late in the first period, and then twice in the third. It was the second straight game that they trailed 3-0, came back with three straight goals to force a shootout, and then lost. They now have two points after two games, with still one to play. Derrick Wong scored twice.

Reactions

Robert Slipcenko (Cayman Islands goalkeeper): Once it got to 3-0 the boys stopped playing - I don´t know what happened. We blew a comfortable lead lead, and I think the problem was probably in our mentality. What is important is that two points were enough for us, as the shootout is always a lottery.

Derrick Wong (Hong Kong defender): The first period was our worst of the tournament. We have to pay close attention to the start of the game. Fortunately, we managed to get back into the game and tie the score. I´m happy to score goals when they help the team accomplish something.
