India evens record by shutting out Greece

2. 6. 2017 | Derek OBrien
After losing their opening game to Slovakia, the Indians were anxious to get their first win of the tournament, but they knew it wouldn´t be easy against a Greek team that took Canada to a shootout yesterday. After a scoreless first period, they got goals 56 seconds apart in the second period by Dampy Brar and Amrit Purewal. They added one more goal in the third on a beautiful play by Shaun Kalkat, then concentrated on preserving Kabir Mangat´s shutout.

Reactions

Kabir Mangat (goalkeeper for Team India): We needed that. We knew that Greece gave Canada a tough battle yesterday, so that motivated us even more. It was a must-win game for us and we’re going to build off this. The guys battled. They played great defence and we all played well as a team. Those are the toughest games, when there’s not so much offensive pressure but those are when the sneaky goals can happen, so we were ready for it. There were a couple of penalties near the end, but we were prepared and ready to fight.
