Cayman Islands beats GB, finishes 3rd in Group B3

6. 6. 2017 | Derek OBrien
Both the Cayman Islands and Great Britain knew they had no chance of advancing to the B-pool playoffs, but nonetheless wanted to win their last game of Group B3. In a tightly contested game, the Caymanians prevailed 4-2 over their Commonwealth rivals. They never trailed in the game, and with the score tied 2-2 in the third period, Paul Strenk scored the game-winning goal on a rush with less than 10 minutes to play.

Reactions

Matthew Halverson (head coach, Team Cayman Islands): First of all I would like to say thank you to the Czech fans. They were fantastic. We played a tough game yesterday, we got 11 penalties, but it was true Cayman ball hockey today. We played hard and it is great to get the win. Semifinal game coming up, we do not know who against yet, but we will be ready for whoever it will be.

Pete Fannan (assistant coach, Team Great Britain): It was a pretty close game, we just need to work on getting the ball a bit deeper and getting shots on goal. An early morning start after a game last night, so maybe we were a bit tired today. We’ll see them later on in the tournament. The loss doesn’t mean too much other than the momentum.
