Czech women get important 3-0 win vs USA

6. 6. 2017 | Vít Trubička
The game was in first period really balanced. Both teams had some chances in an evenly played first period, but neither scored a goal. The second period started the same way, but the Czechs scored three goals in the last half of the second period to complete the scoring. American defender Kayla McCuean was injured and taken from the rink on a stretcher.

Reactions

Karel Manhart (head coach, Team Czech Republic): It’s really unfortunate what happened on the floor today, and we hope that the American player recovers soon and that it will not have any greater consequences. For us, the three points are great because tomorrow we face Canada, and it’s a big game because it will determine whether we go to the semi-finals from first or second place. That’s what we wanted - it was our goal to get the Americans or Slovaks in the semi-finals. We’ve done that and we’re happy.

Gwen Ranqiust-Lemieux (head coach, Team USA): We know that the Czech team is very skilled with the ball, and their passes are really strong. There were a lot of penalties in this game, and of course we had a really bad incident, but I’m proud of my ladies because they stayed strong till the end.
