After 6 rounds of shootout, Bermuda beats France

2. 6. 2017 | Martin Voltr
After a huge victory over Great Britain on the first day, France was aiming to get another one in the game against Bermuda. Both teams scored twice in the first period, and both were leading for just a while. When the Bermudians took the lead back, France responded again and tied it 3-3. But after very hectic finish it was Bermuda who celebrated the win. Jacob Amlong became their hero as he scored in the first and also in the sixth round of the shootout, right on his birthday!

Reactions

Jacob Amlong (author of the game winning goal): Shootout are tough. I was the first one to shoot, I scored and I hoped that would be enough. But then they tied it up back in the round robin. In the sixth round, they guy missed, so I knew that if I score we would win. I saw the high glove and I scored, it was awesome. It was the first game of the tournament for us. They were fast and it took us a little bit to get to their speed, but we matched it. Great game, back and forth, tied game and we are happy to get the extra point in the shootout.

Maxime St-Michel (Head Coach, France): The game against Bermuda was attractive and tight, so I’m really proud of my team’s performance. Our target before match? It was easy, we wanted to win in Pardubice every match, but now it can’t be possible. Before shootout I was absolutely confident because of our players‘ qualities. But in fact, we feel comfortable with shootout defeat and one point.
