Armenia wins over Lebanon to kill their chance of B pool semifinals

5. 6. 2017 | Marek Kratochvíl
Lebanon had to win in order to keep hope for reaching the playoffs. Armenia went ahead in the first two periods but the Lebanese managed to equalize on both occasions. In the third, the Armenians finally broke the pattern, scoring three times and allowing none to secure a 5-2 victory.

Reactions

Gabi Misakian (head coach, Team Armenia): This win is very important and emotional. They weren’t on the same level as us emotionally; this is a big achievement for us. Our goal was not to win just this game; we want to win the rest of our B-pool matches. I´m comfortable with our performance because Lebanon played well, very hard. They came long way, we know them really well, because most of the their players are our friends.

Bassil Boulos (captain of Lebanon): We did well in coming back and tying it up twice. I think we fell just a little bit too short at the end. We fought right until the end and I am really proud of everyone of us. We had a really good game today. Every loss is disappointing, but at least we lost and showed we can keep up with anybody in the B division. Again, I’m just proud of how the guys played. For four games and four nights, we did a really good job on fighting all the way to the end.
