Slovakia wins 1st place showdown with Canada

6. 6. 2017 | Derek OBrien

The last game of the group stage was also the most anticipated one, as Canada and Slovakia went head to head for top spot in Group A1. With two goals in the second period, one in the third, and a perfect performance by Stanislav Petrik in goal, the Slovaks won 3-0 and showed that they’re still the team to beat in the world of men’s ball hockey.

Reactions

Calin Wild (captain, Team Canada): Obviously not the result we wanted. We had chances on the power play but we’ve got to keep throwing balls on net and find a way to beat their goalie. That’s a strong team, we knew they were going to be good, we made a mistake in the round robin, but we’ll learn from our mistakes and we want to see them again.

Jozef Duris (head coach of Slovakia): We are satisfied with the game against Canada, but the most important games will come in the playoffs, so we have to focus on them. Our team has always been modest, so we have to take it day by day, but I have to say that we are getting better and better as the tournament progresses, and I am really happy about that.
