5-on-3 was huge for us, we want gold, hero Dobson says

For the first time in the history of the Women’s World Championship, a team other team than Canada, Slovakia or the Czech Republic will get a medal. Team USA eliminated Canada in the semi-finals with a comeback and a winning goal in the dying moments of regulation as Rebecca Dobson became the hero of the moment.

Rebecca Dobson enjoyed the game to the fullest, never mind her side trailing in most of it. “It was an emotional game. A lot of back and forth action. Exciting. And obviously getting the win makes it all that much better,” she smiled all around.

Team USA struggled to get on the scoreboard for first two periods and they got a bit of help from the opposition with a long 5-on-3 power play early in the third period.

“The power play was a huge moment. We were struggling on power play in previous games so we knew going into this game that it was something we need to fix up and capitalize on them. It was good that we were able to get some power-play goals today,” she said.

It was only one power play goal, actually, but a crucial one for sure.

With Canada taking the lead back, the Americans pushed one more time to get the equalizer and managed to do so with less than five minutes to go in regulation time.

“Obviously, if we have our chances, we would try to get another one but we weren’t gonna do anything risky that would give up an opportunity for them,” Dobson revealed what went through the minds on her team within the last minutes of game. “Luckily, we got that one chance there at the end and it prevented us from going to overtime,” she returned to the game winner that went in from her stick.

“It was awesome. I didn’t even know how much time there was left. I just knew there wasn’t a lot and it was our first lead of the game, so it was pretty exciting,” Dobson recalls the moment that launched a wild celebration both on the floor as well as in the stands as there was the Men’s team cheering them on throughout the whole game.

“They’ve been great all tournament. We’ve been going to each other’s games just cheering each other on and it’s nice playing in away rink and still have that home support,” she praised the load fanbase. “Also, there’s been tons of people at home watching the streams so shout out to all of them for supporting us and hopefully they’ll be able to get up early tomorrow to see the finals.”

Now history has been changed. The first-ever medal from the World Championship will go to another team apart from Canada, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. “Yes, that’s what I hear. But we don’t want just any medal. We want the gold medal,” Dobson said, remaining determined on the main prize.

“It doesn’t matter now who we play, we’re just gonna play team USA game and leave it all out on the floor no matter who we’re against,” Rebecca said before the second semi-final game will take place at the Tipsport arena. “I’ll probably have a look. I don’t know if I watch the whole thing though,” she added.
