Radim, your opening game is over now. Were you nervous before the tournament?
I was not, to be honest. I didn‘t want to stress myself before the opening face-off or anything like that, so I took it easy.
The Swiss bet on defence and did well for a while. What was your game plan?
Very simple, actually. We wanted to play our game and go for the opening goal. We didn’t have any specific instructions towards Switzerland as an opponent. We just focused on our own performance, which we want to have stable for the rest of the tournament.
You had a great share on that first goal of your team with the beautiful back pass from behind the goal. Was it instinctive?
Yes, pretty much just a blind pass. I hoped that Souky (Lukas Soukup) would be somewhere in that area. I’m glad it ended up like that. With that third goal, I just closed my eyes and went for strength rather than accuracy.
What is the chemistry like with Soukup and Martin Spacek on your line so far?
In practice, we could hardly start a play. We had to draw some things down at first and that helped a bit. It was quite good. I am used to Spaca (Spacek) from Kladno, so I know what to expect from him. The whole line did a good job!
After the first period, you had a three-goal lead. What were the instructions after that?
To carry on and not let them get into the game. In the final minutes, we let them have too many chances and we almost paid for it. Luck was on our side, so we avoided any complications.
What do you say about the home crowd during that first game?
Personally, I was really looking forward to the tournament as well as my teammates. The fans didn’t let us down, they were fantastic. I hope it will get even better in the upcoming games.
