Italy beats Haiti and stays in A pool

8. 6. 2017 | Petr Sumbal
In the fight for a place in the A-Pool for the next Worlds, Italy beat Haiti 2-0. In the first period, both teams played very conservatively and defensively. After no goals in the first third of the game, Italy scored the opening goal in the 20th minute. At the start of the final period, Italy scored a power-play goal and got an important two-goal lead. Haiti still tried to equalize, but Italian goaltender Aaron Campisano stayed in form and didn’t concede any goals, which allowed Italy to celebrate its first victory of this tournament.

Reactions

Aaron Campisano (coach of Italy): It was a huge game for us. I am also very satisfied with my shut out, but that is just bonus for me. My team worked very well in front of me, they did not let them shoot. In do not see Haiti be in the B-Pool too much longer. They are great bunch of guys, we were together in hotel. And that is way we did photo after the game together with them.

Charles Lamy Jr. (forward, Haiti): Well, it wasn’t game, we expect it. It was really important for us, but unfortunately we lost the game. We played hard. Now we want throw everything back and come strong again, because we want to promote to A division.
