USA shuts out GB, claims last women‘s semi-final spot

7. 6. 2017 | Derek OBrien

Taylor Steadman scored twice, one of them a highlight-reel behind-the-the back deflection late in the second period, and added one assist as Team USA beat Great Britain 6-0 to secure the last semi-final spot in the women’s tournament and, for now at least, occupy third place. After big losses in their first two games, the results of the British team were a lot more respectable in their least three games.

Reactions

Carl Graham (assistant coach, Team Great Britain): The first two games at this level were very different from back home, so it takes a bit of time to get used to the speed and the talent level, but we kept believing we could win and against Italy we got the result that we wanted. Then against the Slovaks and Americans, we did better against them than two years ago. We didn’t want to let them dictate the way we play - we wanted to play our system and make them adjust to us, and I think in the last two games you could see that and hopefully it carries on into the two games we have left against Italy.

Gwen Ranquist-Lemieux (head coach, Team USA): This was really an opportunity for the team to execute the way they have been trying all week long, because they´re new coming together and I thought that we were able to finally put the ball on the net when it counted. We were focusing on what we needed to do, the simple things.
