Czech women dominate in debut vs GB

3. 6. 2017 | Derek OBrien
In their tournament debut, the Czech women put on a dominant display in front of more than 1000 home fans, shutting out Great Britain 10-0. It was 2-0 after one period, but the Czechs really put the game away with six goals in the second and two more in the third. The team showed scoring depth with eight different goal scorers - only Linda Hyksova and Katerina Nemcova. Goalie Katerina Tepla recorded the shutout.

Reactions

Karel Manhart (head coach, Team Czech Republic): It was our first game, so the first five or 10 minutes we were quite nervous. But starting in the second period, the players were able to play calmly and score, which was our main goal. We did some things well, but there are still some areas we need to improve upon. Even though we scored a lot of goals, we could have generated even more offence.

Carl Wood (head coach, Team Great Britain): We knew it was gonna be a hard and fast game. We knew the Czechs were going to be very mobile, very quick, very strong, and we wanted to play a positional game to keep them to the outside of the floor and wait for offensive opportunities. We had a few moments and we’re not displeased with the outcome. Yes, we lost but we enjoyed the little successes that we made. Confidence is a big part of our game and we’re not as far along in our development as them. The girls are sad right now but they will learn from it and come back stronger the next game.
