Canadian women tested by Italy, but emerge victorious

6. 6. 2017 | Derek OBrien
They had several moments where they put on enormous pressure, but due to the goaltending of Nicole Paniccia, the Canadians managed only one goal in each of the first two periods. When Alicia Furletti-Blomberg scored for Italy 15 seconds into the third, everyone was stunned. But the Canadians added two more goals for the 4-1 win, setting up a game for first place with the Czechs on Wednesday.

Reactions

Rick DiBase (head coach, Team Italy): We had a tough loss yesterday and the girls really bounced back after that, and I was really glad we were able to do that. You always rise to the occasion when you play Canada, that’s for sure, and we lost to a very good team. Plus, solid goaltending always keeps you in a game.

Tam Walsh (assistant coach, Team Canada): It was a very close game if we’re talking about putting the ball into the net. We had a lot of passes and collapsed with our shots. We were surprised by the Italian goaltender; she was really good today. They played very well; better than I thought.
