Host Czechs shut out Switzerland with solid performance

1. 6. 2017 | David Klier
The Czech Republic started the World Championships strong, after a solid performance they beat Switzerland 6-0. Radim Stepanik led the offence with two goals and one assist, while Lukas Soukup and Jan Bily had two points each. Switzerland didn´t get off to a start they wanted - they only had 13 shots in the whole game and that just wasn´t enough to win. Lukas Heczko stopped all shots for the shutout, while the Czechs forced 33 saves from Swiss goalkeeper Stephan Sidler.

Reactions

Tibor Kapanek (coach, Switzerland): First of all I have to congratulate our opponent for the deserved win. I expected that the game would be either close or end like this. Personally, I think that it´s maybe better for us that it ended like this. I have to say that the real tournament for us starts on Saturday.

Jaroslav Pavlik (assistant coach, Czech Republic): We started the game well, it was 3-0 for us after the first period and that probably decided the outcome. We have two days of rest behind us with a little bit of practice. After the first period we were confident and waiting for the other team to make mistakes. We worked hard for two years to start our home World Championships well and we did just that. Some players were nervous before the game, but they didn´t show that on the floor.
